A few days ago, I briefly touched upon how AI is disrupting Corporate Communications. Multiple LinkedIn interactions and later a few coffee conversations turned out to be more interesting than the post itself and these surely helped me expand my thinking.
Several friends and communications professionals pointed out something important: The most logical and exciting conversation isn’t about AI vs. Corporate Communications, rather it’s about AI + Corporate Communications.
And I couldn't agree more. My communications buddies vouch that AI is already becoming an incredible enabler for communication teams and some of the ways it helps is:
- first drafts get created as soon as an idea germinates in your head
- doesn’t matter how complex business information is; it gets summarised and simplified (I find it extremely helpful when it comes to supporting multiple c-suite leaders each demanding your full attention)
- analyze sentiment and engagement in real time - a definite boon for us
- spend less time on repetitive tasks and get busy strategizing
Then there’s an extremely important question of what AI cannot replace.
It cannot build trust or understand organizational culture or anticipate how employees will interpret a difficult decision. And it certainly cannot replace what employees value the most - empathy during moments of uncertainty.
What does this mean? Each has its own place and together they create better outcomes. It is obvious that the future of Corporate Communications isn't about producing more communication, more messages and the like. It's about helping organizations make better sense of it.
I'm still learning and refining my thinking on this and I am loving every bit of it.
Dear fellow communicators - What role do you think AI will never replace within Corporate Communications?
