AI will lead to more hiring than firing?

Connecting the dots that don’t even seem to exist until they do. I noticed, read and tried to make sense of what I recently came across. A number of reports (some latest, some somewhat old - sources in comments) on AI and the future of work and the difference between their findings and typical headlines we see.
AI is leading or will lead to more hiring than firing - I haven't personally seen evidence yet but some of the most credible research seems to suggest this more nuanced picture.

For example (and I did use GenAI to draw report summaries for me - a wonderful and effective use of AI):

- Most recently, PwC’s AI Jobs Barometer found that companies most exposed to AI are growing productivity, wages, and headcount faster than companies least exposed to AI.

- Earlier this year, LinkedIn’s Skills on the Rise report pointed to growing demand for leadership, communication, relationship building, adaptability, and stakeholder management skills.

- Last year, the World Economic Forum projected that by 2030, 170 million new jobs could be created globally, compared to 92 million jobs displaced—a net gain of 78 million jobs.

While the world is in constant flux, I am intrigued by what these reports are pointing toward. Have you gone through any of these and what was your takeaway?

Among other things, what caught my attention was the repeated emphasis on skills like communication, leadership, stakeholder management, and collaboration. If these reports prove correct, AI may actually increase the value of the very human capabilities many organizations have historically undervalued. Key among these will be the #Clarity #Credibility and #Connection communication brings to the business, sense of belonging and long term collective successes.

And all this left we thinking - are we focusing too much on the jobs AI may eliminate (that concern and fear is valid no doubt) and not enough on the jobs, skills, and opportunities it may create (at least being optimistic and hopeful about the future and reports seem to back it up)?

I'd love to hear from people seeing this firsthand. What are you observing and planning for future, at least near term? More hiring? More restructuring? Or simply different skills becoming more valuable?

What are my fellow communicators anticipating?
