We are all having a new kind of experience these days. These are unprecedented times, times that have tested us as human race. Among other things, those who are working from home for the first time especially for days, those who like me are creatures of habit, it has been a challenge of its own. But with working at home having become the new normal, albeit temporarily, here’s how my typical day now looks like and I guess there could be something that you could find interesting and useful too:
- Get up at the usual time - have only delayed the alarm by 30 mins
- Get ready for the day - take bath daily [many folks tend not to when at home ;-)]
- Help out with household work - I am now in-charge of brooming, occasional mopping and laying the table
- Pray - perhaps it’s never been more important than now
- Have meals at usual time during the day [still a challenge]
- Start office work preferably using a chair and desk (I try to use the dining table to the extent possible)
- Take regular breaks - tea, coffee, water, short walk to the kitchen
- Ping a colleague you usually say hi to while in office
- Do 30 mins of exercise - I leverage YouTube Walk at Home videos - it throws up a different challenge everyday on its own
- Watch TV, Netflix, Prime Video or the like for some time [my wife would disagree with the usage of ‘some’ by me for myself]. I prefer crime/detective/police dramas. Check out Person of Interest or Major Crimes or Brooklyn 99
- Do something creative and fun. I have a foosball tournament going on between my son and I and we make a different Mechanix car every alternate day
- Try new and healthier recipes, I made oats omelette for the first time and loved it
- Spend some time on Twitter looking at credible sources of information - stay up-to-date
- Sleep for at least 7 hours - go to bed at usual time
And above all, don't forget to wash your hands frequently while singing the Happy Birthday song. My son and I have already aged by over 20 years in the past 3 weeks thanks to ‘daily birthdays’.
